Chioma hails from the South Bay neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, and has always been a seeker of sounds that move people. As the child of Nigerian immigrants, she grew up immersed in a wide range of genres, shaped by both her upbringing and the diverse communities around her. This fostered a deep appreciation for music in all its forms, but over time she found her sweet spot at the intersection of R&B, Hip Hop, and House. As a DJ, Chioma’s goal is simple: to get people off their seats and onto the dance floor racking up at least 5,000 steps, maybe even 6,000, before the night is over. Her sets are an invitation to connect with one another through movement and no judgement.

chioma.'s academy of djs story
Chioma’s journey through Academy has been nothing short of a life changing experience. She joined Academy at a time in her life where she was uncertain about her future as a potential creative, but being part of Season 17 has given her what she considers the world’s best creative outlet, access to a physical space to express that, and people who support one another. Aside from learning the history and fundamentals of DJing, the biggest lessons she’s learned through academy is to always do things with intention and to practice consistency. As the time in her season comes to an end, she knows this is really just the beginning, and her grad set will be the first step into that next chapter. Academy has changed her forever, and she will carry what she’s learned with her into every opportunity that comes her way.
